Malayer

The Malayer or Malayir rug comes from the large rug producing region south of Hamadan extending into North Luristan. There is a wide variety of different rug patterns and qualities. they come in different sizes and the majority of them are mid size(120x180 to 240x300 cm.) while the colour is predominantly in  shades of red .The beautiful colours of these carpets is attributed to the good water used for washing the wool which helps reveal its colour. The rugs are single wafted and range from coarse to finer than most Hamadan rugs. Generally they have thick construction of very soft wool forming thin tight piles. they usually have nomadic patterns. Weaver in MALAYER are using Turkish knots. The number of knots varies and depends on the quality of carpet but the average is around 120 KPS(30 RAJ).
