Sarough

The city of Sarough is located southwest of the capital Teheran. The Sarough rugs are hand knotted and  Usually woven using beautiful shinning wool. The tight regular knotting make these rugs  the strongest and most durable of the Persian carpets. The knot used is Senneh and the weft is cotton. The pile is wool  with the ground colour is red or dark blue, more rarely Ivory creme is used. the wool is always dyed with natural colores. The motifs include a medallion at the centre, and an open background bearing a few pictures. they  are richly ornamented reminding very much of Kerman carpets.
